About

Smiling woman in a beanie takes a selfie against rocky cliffs under bright sun.

Isabel Nicolau is a Mexican photographer, filmmaker, and creative director whose work explores the aesthetic, emotional, and perceptual relationship between human beings and living territories.

For the past several years, she has dedicated her life to documenting remote landscapes, extreme environments, and natural settings where ordinary perception begins to shift: glaciers, volcanoes, deserts, sacred mountains, jungles, highlands, and wild coastlines.

After studying photography and visual arts in New York City, Isabel developed a cinematic visual language shaped by natural light, scale, silence, waiting, and the intimate relationship between body and landscape. Her work moves across photography, film, visual storytelling, and immersive experiences in nature.

Her artistic universe is deeply influenced by territories such as Patagonia, Iceland, the Andes, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and Peru. Through her images, Isabel seeks not only to capture the beauty of a landscape, but the exact moment when a place stops being background and begins to alter the way a person sees, feels, and inhabits the world.

In 2025, she presented Conversations with the Earth, a photographic exhibition built from images captured in places such as the Salar de Uyuni, Machu Picchu, Icelandic glaciers, deserts, and volcanic regions. The exhibition combined photography, visual storytelling, and an intimate exploration of silence, transformation, and the living relationship with the Earth.

Isabel is also the co-founder of Terra 5.0, a premium expedition platform focused on singular territories. Terra 5.0 designs curated access to places where nature operates as a field of perception: not as tourism, not as decorative retreat, but as a physical, aesthetic, and existential experience.

Through Terra 5.0, Isabel helps create journeys that integrate territory, silence, beauty, body, photography, exploration, and human filtering. Her role is not to accompany tourists, but to direct experiences where landscape, weather, group, and vision open a different relationship with the living world.

Whether through photography, film, or expeditions, her work is rooted in one central idea:

Nature is not a backdrop; it is a force capable of altering perception, revealing what daily life conceals, and reminding the body of an older way of seeing.

Jorge Alférez writes about Isabel: Walking through Conversaciones con la Tierra, the exhibition by Isabel Nicolau in Mexico City, feels like traveling around the world in a matter of minutes. It is an invitation to experience breathtaking landscapes and powerful natural scenes — volcanoes, mountains, and oceans from across the planet — all within a couple of rooms inside a gallery in the Roma neighborhood.

Caras México

Mother magazine goal is to capture the truth, and perhaps some of the essence of Arctic life. Because when we're able to do that, what is behind and between the photographs becomes more important than the photos themselves. And a story is created, where all the images connect, and add up to something bigger than the individual shots.
